We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to join us for our YorkTalks event on Wednesday 13th January. For the first time, this event is available online which has enabled us to invite you as a valued partner to register to join us throughout the day and allowed us to share our research with a worldwide audiences. YorkTalks is our popular annual showcase for some of the most innovative and inspiring research across the research themes.
As well providing a snapshot of the breadth and depth of our work, the introductory remarks at the start of YorkTalks 2021 are an opportunity to reflect on the latest updates in the development of our new University strategy. It also provides a platform to introduce our new research theme champions – colleagues who will drive new opportunities for collaboration and research growth.
The day runs from 9am to 5.15pm (GMT). You are welcome to attend one or more sessions.
The structure of the day is very simple: four academic speakers in each of four interdisciplinary sessions talk for fifteen minutes each about their research in an engaging, visual and accessible way.
Subjects reflect the diversity and strength of the York research environment and run the gamut of topics from:
・the impact of Covid-19 on climate change
・how house design could help in the fight against malaria
・the hidden meaning of medieval art in a North Yorkshire parish church
・the role of GPs in the care of people living with severe mental ill health
・how sudden economic shocks – such as Brexit – could affect our food supplies
Each online session includes time for the audience to ask questions. Session chairs include Wanda Wyporska, Executive Director of the Equality Trust; Julian Baggini, Academic Chair of the Royal Institute of Philosophy; and Rory Cellan-Jones, BBC technology correspondent.
Explore the full programme and book free tickets for any of the sessions via the YorkTalks webpages. You can also view videos of presentations of our previous years YorkTalk sessions.
We hope very much that you will join us for what promises to be a fascinating day.
Best wishes
