Specially Appointed Professor Ryoichi Nagatomi For new medical devices to contribute effectively to healthcare, the roles played by stakeholders from diverse backgrounds are critically important. It is essential that each
stakeholder shares an understanding of their respective roles and objectives for effective and efficient development, and that communication toward these shared goals is firmly established. However, opportunities for such communication are currently limited, and responsibilities are not always clearly defined.
We therefore aim to identify communication challenges among the stakeholders involved and, based on these findings, to provide structured training programs. In addition, we are developing evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of such training. Furthermore, we are systematically collecting challenges encountered in industry–academia collaborative research and development projects and accumulating practical know-how to improve project efficiency.
