Faculty Position at Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, Tohoku University

3. Starting Date April 1, 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
4. Duties and Responsibilities The appointed Professor will be expected to employ molecular biology and biomedical engineering methodologies to elucidate the morphology and function of biological tissues, as well as the pathophysiology of various diseases at the organelle level, and to translate those findings into applications that maintain or enhance physiological function and advance therapeutic strategies. In addition to conducting their own research, the appointed Professor will teach courses and deliver lectures within the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, and mentor Master’s and Doctoral students in the design, execution, and completion of their theses and dissertations.
5. Required qualifications and conditions Applicants must satisfy all of the following:
(1) Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent)
(2) Possess outstanding record of research achievements.
(3) Demonstrate the capacity to contribute to teaching and research activities within the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering.
(4) Be able to promote and participate in industry–academia collaborative initiatives and other joint activities within the Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering.
6. Teaching Responsibilities Anatomy, Physiology for Biomedical Engineering, Fundamental Biochemistry, Laboratory Work for Biotechnology, Medical Device Development Practice, etc.
7. Compensation Annual salary system according to the rules of Tohoku University

(7) Tohoku University has the largest on-campus childcare system of all Japanese national universities. This network comprises three nurseries: Kawauchi Keyaki Nursery school (capacity: 22) and Aobayama Midori Nursery school (116), both open to all university employees, as well as Hoshinoko Nursery school (120), which is open to employees working at Tohoku University Hospital. In addition, Tohoku University Hospital runs a childcare room for mildly ill and convalescent children which is available to all university employees.
